ROUTE FROM MIDLANDS AND SOUTH WEST TO HYTHE ALPINESYour route should culminate in the A14 which bypasses Cambridge and merges with the A11 to bypass Newmarket. At the end of the Newmarket bypass the roads split again, leave the A14 filtering left onto the A11. 5 miles after you leave the A 14, and just after a petrol station on your left is a large roundabout. Take the second exit, I think signposted Swaffham, onto the A 1065. This will take you past Lakenheath U S A air base and shortly afterwards into BRANDON. Follow your nose through Brandon taking the left filter and turn left at the junction controlled by traffic lights. at the market square. On leaving Brandon, you go over a railway crossing, immediately after the crossing the road forks, take the left fork. In a little over 6 miles you come into the village of METHWOLD. On your left look for a small second hand car sales forecourt, a few yards after this take the left turn which takes you into the middle of Methwold. Go right through and out the other side of the village, past a Council house estate and into open farmland. After one mile you will see the village sign on your left, METHWOLD HYTHE, just as you reach a downhill slope. At the bottom of this slope the road takes a sharp left bend. Do not go round this bend, there is a road ahead of you which is straight on but turns right off the road that you are on. A further 30 yards on your right is a chalet bungalow 'Whitegates' with a concrete forecourt. This is our private residence the garden and nursery being behind it. Pull onto the concrete forecourt and please park tidily. You have arrived. FROM THE SOUTH EAST AND EAST TO HYTHE ALPINES Aim for the A11, northern Thetford bypass. At the middle roundabout turn north onto the A134. Follow this road heading towards Kings Lynn for about 7 miles through the beautiful Thetford forest, till you arrive at a roundabout in Mundford. (if coming from Swaffham or Watton direction then head straight for Mundford). Carry on over the roundabout on the A134 for about a half mile when the road forks, take the minor fork to the left signed 'Cranwich Heath'. Continue for a couple of miles through forest and open farmland when you will come to the village of Methwold at a cross-roads, go straight across into the village and out the other side into open farmland. After less than a mile you arrive at Methwold Hythe. Descending a hill into the village you soon come to a very sharp bend to the left - DO NOT GO AROUND THIS BEND - look straight ahead at a side road and take that. You can see 'Whitegates', our chalet bungalow (green Volvo estate usually parked in front) from this junction just 30 yards ahead. FROM THE NORTH EAST DIRECTION via THE A10 Aim for the A10, joining at either Kings Lynn or Downham Market. Head south till you see a sign for Southery to your left, take this turn and in the middle of Southery after less than one mile look for a further left turn onto the B1386. Take this turn and after leaving the village travel for about 1 mile and then take a turn to your left onto the B1160. After a couple of miles and having gone round a right angled bend you come to a further sharp bend with a minor road going straight ahead, take the minor road and follow it for a couple of miles. As you enter the old part of Methwold Hythe village you will see the 'Green Man' pub on your right and after a further hundred yards Hythe Alpines is on your left. (For anyone travelling from north Cambridgeshire the A10 route is probably the best - follow my directions from Southery.)
